| UNCLE VIC'S FIT TIP #17, 2007 — Obscene Obesity Observations
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, there has been a sudden increase in the number of Americans who are extremely obese. The Center defines obesity as having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more. Extremely obese is defined as 40 and above. Your body mass index is your percentage of body fat based on your height and weight. The number of extremely overweight people has increased by 50% from 2000 to 2005, twice as fast as the increase in moderate obesity. So, how does this affect you?
- Use the BMI calculator on the Brick Bodies website. If you get 25 or above, you need to get on a serious fitness program immediately.
- Get your friends and loved ones to use the BMI calculator as well. If they are 25 or above, do everything you can to get them on a program as well.
Our core purpose at Brick Bodies is to change people's lives. You should be concerned with helping to change the lives of your friends and loved ones as well, for their good and the good of the planet. Obesity is not only taking it's toll on the health of individuals, it is taking it's toll on society as well, and not just in ways that are common knowledge. As we all know, obesity is straining the public health care system and dramatically increasing government costs. However, it is also causing an increase in the consumption of our fossil fuels (due to increased passenger weight loads in everything from cars to airplanes), is the cause of over-farming to meet increased food demands, and is the cause of many childhood behavioral problems that can be linked to poor nutrition and excessive sugar consumption.
Encourage people you know to get their BMI. It just might get someone started on the road to health and fitness. Maybe that someone is you.
