LYNNE BRICK'S TOP TEN FITNESS TIPS- Commit to Get Fit

1. Lighten Up!
The ancient Greeks believed that humor was essential to the healing process. Studies now show that it's no joke...laughter is strong medicine! People who overreact to stressful situations appear more likely to have heart trouble, but those who laugh...last.

2. Positively Positive
Release yourself from negative stereotypes of aging. Negative beliefs and expectations become self-fulfilling.
3. "B" is for Balanced Diet
You may have heard about "antioxidants" — vitamins C, E and beta carotene — which appear to slow plaque formation in the arteries. Now there's evidence that folic acid, a B vitamin, and vitamins B6 and B12 may help prevent heart attacks. You'll get all three "B's" from a balanced diet.

4. Relieve Stress to "D"-Stress
In the morning, tackle your toughest job first — it's easier when you're fresh. Mid-morning, try non-caffeine sodas, herbal teas or mineral water more often. Mid-day, relax and recharge during lunch by eating with others away from your work area. Mid-afternoon, take a brisk walk around the block or building if you feel sluggish. At the end of the day, pay someone a compliment, mail a thank you note or send congratulations to a co-worker for a recent achievement.

5. Muscle Moves
The more muscles you have, the more efficiently you burn calories and fat, prevent osteoporosis, and slow down the aging process. Strength training simply means that you make your muscles work harder than they normally do.

6. Beauty's Only Skin Deep
'Tis the season to have fun in the sun! Be sure to wear protective sun screens, hats and eye-gear.

7. Beat the Heat and Avoid a Bad Air Day
Baltimore is one of the top ten cities with poor air quality. Exercise in air conditioned comfort and breathe the good air.

8. Develop Your Un-Sweet Too
Cutting back on foods and drinks high in sugar limits empty calories in your diet and leaves room for heart-friendly fiber and nutrients. Besides sugar can cause tooth decay, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, asthma, migraine headaches, etc., etc., etc.

9. Don't Wait to Hydrate
Humidity robs your body of precious fluids. Be sure to drink the recommended daily dose of 8 - 10, 8 ounce glasses of water.

10. Get Up Off Your Seat and Get Up on Your Feet
