This is Better Than butter!

Do you want to lose weight, rev up your metabolism and prevent infections all while enjoying flavorful foods that are high in fat?  Yes, you read that correctly… high in fat. Seems impossible, doesn’t it?  Seems it can’t be good for you, right?  Actually, people have been eating these for centuries.  Often tabooed because of it’s saturated fat content, coconuts provide incredible medicinal value. Specifically, coconut oil is an excellent choice to add fat to your diet in a healthy way.  I recommend you use coconut oil instead of butter.

Here’s are several reasons why:

  • Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid which increases HDL (high density lipoprotein) or good cholesterol.  It also increases LDL (low density lipoprotein) but reduces the LDL/HDL ratio a more significant indicator.
  • Lauric acid is also anti-viral, anti-bacterial and an anti-oxidant. WOW.
  • Coconut oil does not oxidize or turn rancid like other oils do.
  • Coconut oil assists the body to absorb nutrients more effectively.
  • Coconut oil does not convert to fat in the belly. Great news for women!  See Dr. Mercola’s article:  http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/06/22/magical-fat-that-increases-good-cholesterol-and-lowers-abdominal-obesity-in-women.aspx
  • Coconut oil helps to convert energy in the body and increases metabolism at a whopping rate of 3 times the calorie burn!
  • Coconut oil is not just good for you, it tastes great too!
  • As an added bonus, coconut oil can be cooked at high temperatures.

A few ways to cook with coconut oil:

  1. Fry your eggs in coconut oil instead of butter
  2. Use on fish, instead of butter
  3. Sauté foods, use for baking or frying, etc. in place of butter

Try using coconut oil for one week and let us know if you lose weight. Please share how you feel.  Please share your opinion about the flavor of your food.  Thank you!

Happy cooking in a healthy way!

P.S. I recommend buying organic coconut oil in a brown container that is not exposed to light.
