Trick or Treat is no Treat at All!

Getting ready for this scariest “holiday” of the year? Well, it scares me because it ushers in flu season. How amazingly close that follows after Americans ingest over $2 billion worth of junque sugar!
Sugar is probably the most damaging thing we ingest. To binge on it in the form of cheap, mass produced bio-junque is just asking to get sick! Our digestive system rebels as sugars steal layers of cells off our stomach walls, challenge our pancreatic enzymes, and work our sleeping intestinal parasites into a partying frenzy. Yes, parasites love sugar, just like cancer cells do. Our immune system that fights to keep us well has quite a job helping us survive what we eat, and with this sugar frenzy, it often loses the battle and we are in a weakened state so every little bug that comes along has a stronger likelihood of making us sick.
Personally I’d rather starve those nasty cells and feed my healthy cells some really good food, but I know the kids are going to want to do this thing. Realize the average kid hauls in about 250 pieces of candy. That amounts to about 1500 grams of sugar. Just one Snickers bar has about 27 grams of sugar, 34 total carbs!
So what should we do to avoid this onslaught of sickness for our kids? IMHO, a flu shot and a dose of insulin is not the solution!! A healthy immune system and digestive system along with good sense and discipline are the only forms of self defense that make any sense to me!
Allow a piece of candy, but only a piece, not 250 of them. Chase with an apple or a piece of cheese. Have the kids brush their teeth right away not only to protect the teeth, but the absorption through the gums and disruption of the salivary glands can be minimized that way.
Also, be selective about what you give out at your door, and which of those 250 you decide to keep. At my house we will give out real dark chocolate and raisins. Dark chocolate is whole food as it contains the whole bean, not a portion or a concoction too far from nature.
Wishing you all a safe and healthy season, all the sweetness of life withOUT the sugar!
