Today’s Fit Tip: Slow down to lose weight. During the holidays, everybody is concerned about gaining weight, and it takes about 15 minutes for the stomach to send signals to the brain that it’s full. That means that if you eat quickly, sometimes you continue to overeat even though you’re fully satiated. Here are four tips to slow down and lose weight.
Tip Number One: Slow down. Most Americans eat way too quickly. Enjoy your food. Engage in casual conversation with the person that you’re eating with. Take your time and eat slowly.
Tip Number Two: Take a two-minute time out during your meal. Stop eating. Take a deep breath. Relax.
Just take two minutes, so that you slow down and let your stomach communicate with your brain. Put small portions on your plate, that way if you do want to go back for seconds and eat more food, you have to take a little bit of extra time.
When eating at home, do not bring the serving dishes to the table. Keep them on the stove or on the kitchen counter. That way again, if you do want to go back for seconds, you have to take extra time to go back to get something additional to eat.
