Fit Tip #70 – Eating for Energy
April 19, 2011 By: Victor Brick
Lynne, Jon, Vicki, and I are here in Sydney, Australia at the Filex Australian Fitness Convention. As you can imagine, when we arrived, we were a little fatigued from the time change, getting up early, and being on the go ever since, which is why this fit tip is going to discuss the importance of and the proper way to eat for energy.
When most people are away or traveling, they try to still eat healthy by eating a lot of fruits, cereals, and light carbohydrates. They can all be healthy choices however fruit has a lot of sugar which breaks down very quickly as do carbohydrates which ends up giving you an energy boost that runs down rather quickly.
In reality what you need to eat for energy is protein with your breakfast. Protein is the hardest thing to add to your diet, especially when you are traveling, but it is necessary to slow down your conversion of food to fuel. The easiest things to eat when on the go and traveling are things like eggs, cottage cheese, and low fat plain yogurt. Remember also when you eat the egg to eat the total egg. All these foods are usually very easy to come by at hotels and or big convention meetings.
So remember to get more energy from your food, eat protein, which slows down the metabolism of your food and gives you a steady stream of energy through the course of your day.
