The Road to 100 Fit Tip #69 The Importance of Varying Your Workouts

March 18, 2011 By: Victor Brick

Lynne and I are here in San Francisco at IHRSA 30, The International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association Convention. It’s a once a year convention for the health and fitness industry. We’re here at the trade show right now and there is an unbelievable amount of new workouts available. There is new equipment from Cybex, and Life Fitness to name a few, and many new classes from Les Mills. Les Mills offers a new class called CX30 which is a 30 minute class that focuses strictly on core training.

Each year we are here, we attend many different seminars and meetings but here at the trade show is where we learn about all the new classes and different exercise equipment coming out. We learn all about the new ways that people can add variation to their workouts, which is extremely important to achieve maximum results.

It’s important to continuously vary your workouts so that your muscles do not develop what they call muscle adaptation or muscle memory. This happens when they start to get comfortable with the workout that you are constantly doing without any change. If you don’t vary your workout and change things up a bit every 30-60 days then your body will get used to what it is doing and you will plateau. You will not reach your maximum potential if all you do is use the same treadmills, bikes, or machines constantly day after day without any change in your routine. You want to continuously vary your workouts and take advantage of all the new programs most of which are available here at Brick Bodies and all the good health clubs out there.

So remember, I can’t stress the importance enough that you always want to vary up your workouts if you want to achieve maximum results.

See you at 100 (years, that is!)
